Apple Has a New CEO – Why did Steve Jobs Resign?

Apple fans everywhere were shocked to here the news of Steve Jobs’ resignation today. Jobs, the long time leader of the technology giant, was seen as being the leading force behind its products. The amount of passion he put into his career is arguably what made Apple what it is today. However, a struggle with pancreatic cancer and other issues have prevented him from being very active in his position as CEO for the past several years.

His successor as Apple’s CEO is Tim Cook, the man who had previously acted as CEO in Steve Jobs’ earlier medical leave absences. Although some might say he lacks some of the passion and creativity that Jobs brought to the table, Tim Cook is more than qualified to act as CEO.

In addition to taking over during Jobs’ temporary medical leaves, Cook has also been a member of the Apple team since 1998. Although a lot of his career has been working behind the scenes, he has recently taken on a more public approach to his Apple leadership. He represented Apple during Verizon’s announcement of iPhone availabity on their network, and has long been responsible for Apple’s earnings calls.

So although it may take some getting used to for a lot of people, Tim Cook seems like a wise choice and a very capable leader. As for his predecessor, why exactly did Steve Jobs quit? Popular belief holds that it is a result of his ongoing medical issues interfering with fufilling the responsibilities of CEO. But don’t worry, he won’t be gone completely — Jobs will stay on as chairman of the board.
